About the organization
Chapter 4
Within the management of ABC Huis, we have looked at what the organization needs to realize the ambitions of the multi-year policy plan. We have included evaluations of the 2020 reorganization of the library. This resulted in the decision to gradually flatten the organizational structure and reduce the span of control of managers. Furthermore, the positions of employees at the branches were subjected to a critical review and re-described and valued.
Sickness absence
This year, sickness absence rates at ABC Huis and the Library increased compared to last year. The sickness absence rates at Artiance fell compared to last year.
Sickness absence and sustainable employability require our continuous attention. In 2023, in order to stimulate fitness levels, increase resilience and prevent sickness absence, a range of training courses will be offered with workshops surrounding the theme of Resilience, which workshops will be made available to all employees within the entire ABC Huis. In addition, the case managers (supervisors) of employees on sick leave continuously look for ways to promote the recovery process.

Deployment of volunteers
The development towards an overall social library and the fact that our employees are deployed for other activities, the role of our volunteers is becoming increasingly important. Not only for certain activities, but also within the library, supporting the employees. Volunteers are increasingly becoming part of the team and are indispensable for the work on the library floor.
The image of a retired volunteer who likes to make himself or herself useful is shifting. We are now actually receiving many registrations from people who want to rehabilitate through volunteer work. For example, people who want to return to the workplace after a period of illness or having been absent for other reasons. Or those who want to become acquainted with a certain work situation through volunteer work.
At our branch in De Mare, we recently entered into a partnership with Kop-Zorg. This gives young people with autism the opportunity to structure their day and participate in society. This fits in perfectly with the social library concept. Not only do we offer services and activities in society, we also bring that society inside and offer opportunities to different groups of people.
